Catching Up

This morning I had a post completed and Internet Explorer freaked out and the connection to the wi-fi spaced out and I lost everything. Hopefully tonight it will be fine. It's almost tomorrow morning!

These pictures are from Thursday when the kids had a blast using their new green Lego bases to build on. The girls are progressively becoming more creative and it's fun to watch them grow this way.

D was very excited to have Daddy see everything that he made with his new Indiana Jones Legos.

Here's a close up. That's all we ever hear about. They even play out stuff being the characters that they have seen in the Lego short movies.

Here's J... who knows why she made this face?!

A close up of J's creation. A had already put hers away so no pictures.

Here J is putting the finishing touches on her project before I could photograph it.

Thursday afternoon the kids had fun playing outside and Grandma and Grandpa made cheeseburgers on the grill for them.

While I was working, the girls picked these flowers for me and brought them into the office.

Then we all went to bed, except Mommy who stays up til Midnight to get everything done! :o) Here's Grandma and Grandpa looking like Borg in their CPAP masks!

I wanted to get some sleep without any one's feet in my face or arms in my stomach, so D slept in the living room... didn't take long to go down for the count.

Friday on the way to Shelley's we stopped at the cemetery. I know some might think this is unusual, but the children understand death a bit already since our dear Laura passed. And they know that because they have Jesus in their hearts they will go to Heaven and seen Papa Dan, Laura, Uncle Danny and others who also have Jesus in their hearts. So I took them to see where my family are buried. This is my Dad's head stone.

My Dad is next to my Grandma and my little brother Danny is at Grandma's feet.

Here is Grandma's headstone. When I told the kids we were going to stop at one more, A kept saying, "Is this your friend who died? Is this another one of your friends who died?" LOL I explained to her that I don't know all the people who are in the graves. This cemetery does contain the physical earthly remains of my two great Grandparents, one grand Uncle and one grand Aunt, one Grandmother, one Dad, one step Dad, one brother and one baby cousin. But I don't know everyone else! :o)

My step Dad Andy is buried in front of this tree by the pond. We always laughed that he was buried by the pond since he couldn't swim in spite of the fact that he was in the Navy and fought in the Pacific during WWII and Korea.

Andy's head stone. Both my Dads were way too young when they died!

We sat in traffic in Seattle, Federal Way and Tacoma. Yuck! I hate the city. I like some of the things the city contains but NOT traffic! When it was really bad, D decided to pray. Then A prayed and then J. The girls prayed that the cars in front of us would get out of our way! LOL Then after the traffic moved A prayed to thank God for moving the cars out of our way. J thought that was "nice of them to do." :o)

At Shelley's house we were greeted by the Pug Patrol. This black pug is Odie, there is a fan pug named Frankie and Shelley's pug named Kala.

Naturally Odie and Frankie had to supervise our packing from the window! :o)

After we were on the road for awhile we stopped at Duffy's in Aberdeen (no need to do that again - expensive for mediocre food!). This is J, Shelley, A and D.

D, A, Shelley and J in the restaurant.

Here are the kids playing with the string toys the restaurant gave them. They had a blast with these.

J gave Aunt Shelley a big hug!

Coming out of the restaurant, the sky was beautiful.

This is along the river outside Hoquiam.

We got into the motel in Forks late, about 10:30 PM. We were exhausted but looking forward to the beach!

Before going to bed we talked to Daddy. J and A (on phone) in the first picture and a closeup of J in the second.

Here are the girls when I woke up this morning! :o)
We had a slow day today but fun. The weather is not the greatest and so most pics are gray! I won't have time probably to do a blog update for several days.
We love you Daddy!

Danny Boy

Daniel Albin Johnson
12/4/1967 to 5/1/1973

35 years later, I would think it would get easier, but it does not. The day he left this earth, sunshine left the room and my heart was broken. God heals the raw pain, but the hole is still there. I do not dwell on it, but some days the grief comes in waves when I least expect it.

So many times lately I have looked at my children and wished I could share them with him. Maybe because my son is about the same age as I was when he left and my girls are almost the same age as him. My brother and I were 17.5 months apart and so were my children. I couldn't get the scanner to scan these photocopies of 126 black and white photos, so I photographed them quickly to share. Sorry for the blurry pics.

This photo is probably Christmas 1968, Danny and I with Grandpa and Grandma Johnson - can you see how he holds my finger. We were pretty close right from the start.

This is at my Grandparents' lot on the Skykomish River, probably 1969. Danny is drinking a pop. My Dad drove pop delivery trucks so we often had wooden cases of pop in glass bottles that went camping with us. It was not something we normally had so it seemed a neat treat at the time.

This joyful smile is what I remember because most of the time he was like this. He had an even tempered nature. It was usually me that had the temper or stubbornness!

This is 1970, since my cousin, the baby was born late 1969. That's Grandma Hopkins holding her and me with my arm around my brother. This is in the parking lot at Paradise at Mount Rainier National Park. I would have been about 4 and Danny 2 1/2 years old.

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

ABC Along 2008 - B

First I must apologize to all my dial-up friends! This is a picture intensive post. This is my B post for the Knitorious ABC Along 2008.

B is for Baby, my baby. I photographed this instead of scanning. It's the first picture I ever took on our first time out alone, taken at the Beach in Blaine, Washington.

Here is my Baby, taken tonight, 9.5 years later, on his way to do an important presentation and I am just Bragging because I am so proud of him and the Godly man he has become!

B is for Bible, the most important, influential and Holy Book I have ever read! This is one of many that belonged to my Grandma Holly and has her markings and notes.

B is for Bride; here I am with Grandma Hopkins, of whom I write so often. I am carrying my bouquet.

B is for the boutinful blessings God has given me in my family. There were five in the Bed and the photo bug said, "I'm going to get my camera!" (Hubby, D, A, J)

B is for brother who is celebrating his 5th birthday. (Daniel Albin Johnson 1967-1973)

B is for boogie boy, who is a delight and a joy!

B is for Bessie Pease Gutman, one of my favorite artists.

B is for babies who were born five weeks before their due date. (A on left, J on right, photo courtesy of my Mom. Thanks Mom! It's my favorite!)

B is for twin B, whose name begins with A!

B is for Best Friend; this is Shelley photographing in Mount Vernon, Washington. (Another photo courtesy of Mom!)

B is for Uncle Bud, Charles Alexander Larimore (1918-2006). He was my Grandma Johnson's brother.

B is for Belitz or Balitz or Baylitz, the family of my great, great Grandma Hopkins who came to the United states in 1869, first to Wisconsin and then to Michigan. She traveled on a steamship with her family from Hamburg to New York and family stories recall that she helped milk cows on the ship! Seated are her parents, Henrietta "Etta" Wolf Belitz, Carl Belitz and between them is their son Frederick. Behind on the left is their daughter Louisa and on the right is my ancestress Marie/Mary Belitz Hopkins 1859-1909. Photo circa 1880.

B is for Barbie a new acquistion to our household. A on left and J on right, caught combing Barbies hair together. Behind them is the kitchen set which was my Christmas present in 1969.

B is for bear and bedtime buddies, of which J can never get enough. On the right is my Husky dog slipper wearing a purple princess dress up gown! lol

And B is for Buddy, Uncle L and Aunt K's dog, who we had fun visiting at Christmas.

B is for bubbles, which are lots of fun. Here Hubby has A on his lap, J in pink and D in background at Goat Rock Beach.

B is for bonding and spending time together. Here D watches Daddy sketch at the beach.

B is for bicycle; this is A's first, a gift from Grandma and Grandpa Johnson.

And B is for the beach where we escape the heat and smog!

B is for all the beauty God created to bless us. This is the California side of Lake Tahoe.

B is for branches as trees are one of my favorite things to photograph and see in art.

B is for bees who pollinate our flowers and plants and give us honey!

B is for blossoms and lady bugs. This is my Gemini rose, one of my favorites.

B is for Big Trees State Park, the largest grove of Sequoia redwoods alive in the world. They are an awesome sight to behold!

B is for butterfly, this one is a Swallowtail with bold coloring and bright pink flowers.

B is for bear crossing sign at Lake Tahoe.

And B is for bear; this is Yosemite proof that they really do cross the road - sometimes right where the sign says they do!

B is for bonnets at the Civil War re-enactment on the California Coast.

B is for books of which we have plenty, and our new bookcase, as well as the 18 bankers boxes covered and making a base for this bookcase and the photo boxes above. (When you live in a small place, you have to get creative with storage!)

B is for binder, for which I wrote a long post on Wellness Wednesday a couple weeks ago. This is my binder for the kitchen.

B is for banana bread, which is a family favorite from my Aunt Grace's recipe.

B is for beets in our Vita-Mix blender, waiting to go in our...

Bread! (Beet/Wheat/Spelt bread - recipe on my My Journey To Wholeness blog, link is at right)

B is for blue faced leicester wool which I like to spin and the old blue chair where I sit to knit!

B is for bead stitch marker which I attempted to make!

B is for Scottish black faced sheep and this is a photo I took near Loch Goilhead in Scotland.

B is for bagpipe, a Scottish tradition. This gentleman was found playing in Edinburgh.

And B is for blog, one of the best B's of all!!!
