Songs On Sunday

Today I went with a friend to visit a church that I used to attend regularly and where I still know quite a few people. We went to the second service because we were interested to go to a traditional service today. Well, the blended service wasn't very blended. I do like modern music too, so it wasn't a total bad thing, but a surprise. Wow! That worship team could rock! LOL Of course they started out with surf music and the kids from VBS performed some of the songs they sang because they had done "Outrigger Island" for their theme. There were a few choruses, which I knew and only one hymn. In some ways I was really glad that it was a bouncy, moving worship service so that my heart would not weep! The last time I had been to church there was for the memorial service of my dear, sweet, sweet Laura. Much to our chagrin, their pews did not come equipped with tissues! I *KNOW* I am not the only one who cries in church! The sermon was awesome and once I felt my soul ready to shout out "Amen!" and then remembered I wasn't on my "home turf"! :o) I'm glad I didn't embarrass my friend! lol
Seriously though, I did notice a theme in several of the worship songs, that Christ is our ROCK! It doesn't matter how we feel, what our circumstances are, how things appear, what other people say, what other people think or what other people do. Christ is SOLID. When we are weak He is strong, He sustains us, uplifts us, carries us, supports us, teaches us, encourages us and loves us. He is always there. He never leaves us. He never forsakes us. He never tricks us. He never ridicules us. He never harms us. He makes us WHOLE.
If you feel you are sinking, hold on to the ROCK!
"My Hope is Built on Nothing Less"
by Edward Mote, 1797-1874

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

3. His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Solid Rock is one of my favorites! DH likes to tease me because I call it the sinking sand song! :) I'm glad you were ministered to at service today. B has graduated to 4 yo. Children's Church, and is now with us (or just me today as DH is at a conference) for worship, which she just loves! We are so blessed to have a wonderfully Biblical pastor! Sorry for rambling so.
